Windows 7 Pro was Genuine - Now Not Genuine, Why?

I purchased and installed Windows 7, on 19 Dec 2009, my copy was Authenticated and I have been using Windows 7 every since, receiving all Microsoft Updates, the last 3 Microsoft Updates were 12 May - KB978542 and on 26 May 2010 - KB982632 and KB981793.

And for some reason today 27 May 2010, when I booted, I received the message "Windows is not Genuine" Fig. 1. and Click this message to learn how to get genuine.

I went to the Control Panel > System > Windows Activation and view the message "You must Activate Windows today" Fig. 2 which after running opens Windows Activation and the message "Type a different product key for activation, the product key you have typed has been blocked from use by Microsoft." with 4 options.

  • Buy a new product key online

  • Retype your product key

  • Use the automated phone system to activate

  • Contact Microsoft to help resolve this problem

I tried Retyping my Product Key Fig. 5, the Automated Phone System Activation, providing the 9 groups of numbers Fig. 6 and Microsoft replied "unable to validate my copy of Windows".

I attempted to Restore to an earlier date Fig. 7, to no avail.  I then re-installed Win7 Pro.

Upon re-installation, once again "Windows is not Genuine" and what is interesting is to visit MS Validation web page http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ValidationResult.aspx?  and I ran this validation, and the results are Windows Validation was Successful, see Fig. 3 and at an earlier time prior to System Restore and Re-Installing Win7 Pro, running MS Validation web page, the following results were "I may be the Victim of Software Counterfeiting"  Fig 4.

I manually ran Check for Updates, I received the Caution "Optional update delivery is not working" and "You maybe a Victim of of Software Counterfeiting"

And how would restoring to a previous point/date resolve "Windows is not Genuine" ?  I even ran DOS Prompt, Run as Administrator, CHKDISK /F and that did not correct my issue/problem and I also ran, SFC System File Checker and this did not correct the problem/issue of Activation/Validation.

As of 8 Jun 2010, this issue has been resolved

Windows Updates 30 May 2010

Which I do not understand why or how, since I know prior that I have had a Validated Copy, have my 25 digit Product Key or how else could I use Windows 7 for the last 5-6 months and get updates, if it was not a Genuine Validated Windows 7 Pro?

I can see there are many topics on the same issue not only with Windows 7, but XP as well, so I am not alone and it is hard to find the Solution/Fix from so many message boards, similar topics regarding Windows Genuine Advantage.  And Microsoft makes it almost impossible to get help/assistance without charging me more, for something not my fault.

System Restore shows Restore Points back to 14 Apr 2010.  I would call this Proof Windows 7 is Activated and Valid, Not Counterfeit as shown above, not to mention the long History of System & Critical Updates.

I Activated and Validated when I originally installed Windows 7 Pro, and did the same again after re-installing, however it is difficult to Activate when Windows States it is blocking my Product Key without specific cause or reason greater than I May have a Counterfeit Copy.

Other steps I performed, were running MGADiag.exe and WindowsActivationUpdate.exe

Update....Elecsurf.com came to my Rescue and provided me with a new Product Key # and suggest

Possible reasons:

1. the key was tried to activate more than once.

2. the key was leaked to a 3rd party.

3. You activated the key but did not validate it yet.

4. Registry permissions issues as results of GPO.

A recent common issue, see details at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2008385

Thank you Elecsurf.com
