Your information paid off, I found Matilda as head of
household in the 1930 census at 126 Cottage St, Rochester NY. Matilda rented,
was a widowed, married at age 24, which would of been abt. 1919, so unless she
married before 1919, this is here first, for the 1930 census ask age at first
marriage. Grace Offen is Matilda's sister and Ada is a lodger. Which age 17
from 35 is a big gap to be sisters.
Also, Matilda's father is listed as born in Hamburg Germany, her mother in what
looks like Sacton Germany, but I cannot find this city. Which for her sister's
parents are listed as just Germany, and Grace is a messenger for Kodak Mfg.
Below is how Matilda and family are listed on Ancestry.com, I have the 2 page
image of this census and now that I know Matilda was born in New Jersey, I shall
see if I can find her in the 1900 census, obviously if she is born 1895 NJ, then
her parents immigrated just prior. So did you ever hear of Olive or June?
So according to this census Laverne was born about June 1929, conceived about
Sep 1928, meaning the father died about then. Meaning Barbara and Shirley
are not Hoyt's. That my guess is maybe Matilda did not marry their father and
placed them in a foster home, but giving them the name of Hoyt. A DNA test
would prove this, but where to get the DNA from one of Matilda's other children
to compare with Barbara or Shirley.
I have downloaded all images linked above, entered the
data/information into my genealogy program that the report I sent you
previously, was generated from that program.
