1850 - note: all census are as indexed and may not be accurate
I found a Thomas, age 18, b. abt. 1832, MD, son of Samuel 52 & Mary 48, with siblings of Charles 22, Mary A. 14 and Susan 10. Samuel is a farmer as are the boys. Image on file
1860 - note: all census are as indexed and may not be accurate
in 1860, I have not found Thomas Martin
in CA, but in MD, I found two Thomas Martin's of which one is black,
here is the other one.
I looked at the Baltimore image and Thomas is age 30 living with many others as you can see, but on the page before is a Ann Martin, age 56, so this could be his mother being 26 years older. I will look in 1850 to see if I can find Thomas with his parents. Name: J A Dusel

1870 - note: all census are as indexed and may not be accurate
I found in the 1880 census, the following, which matches in part the 1900 census, here Thomas G. is born in Maryland and is a miner.
Name. Thomas G. Martin
On the 1880 census image of
Thomas G. Martin, his name follows Dusel's and I would say your Kate is Kitty in this group of Dusel's Dock Dusel, b. abt. 1830, Mother Dick Dusel, b. abt. 1835, Aunt
1900 - note: all census are as indexed and may not be accurate
Name. Thomas G
Martin -
1900 image Estimated Birth Year. abt 1830
Birthplace. Kentucky
Looking at the 1900 image which Kate is not indexed, I do not see a E Martin, age 37, but what looks like Kate for next
to this name has wife, 6 children born, 6 living....listed are a daughter 15,
son 13, son 11, daughter 8, daughter 6, and a son 3.
In looking at the same census image at Heritage Quest, it definitely reads Kate as the wife, however they have her born in 1862, so she was 30 years Thomas's junior. Thomas is working at Placer Gold Mine. Kate and Thomas have been married 17 yrs, placing their marriage about 1883.
Kate Martin, 62, Siskiyou Yreka TWP 1900 who is married 40 years no spouse listed and has 2 children living and below her name is a David Martin and family.
