Illinois Public Land Purchase Records, shows a Thomas Mercer purchasing
8000-24000 acres 13 Jul 1835 also a listing for a Thomas Mercer, U.S. General
Land Office Records, 1796-1907, 1 Aug 1838, Bureau Co. IL
And a possibility is that Thomas M. Mercer's father is Thomas as well, for there
are land records dated 29 May 1818, Bureau Co., IL and there is a Mercer Co. IL,
so this maybe named after your Mercer Ancestors.
