Officers:

  • Chief engineer  William Bacon, formerly Chief on the SMT CHEMICAL TRADER, now owned by Crowley.  Recently heard he was sailing as 1AE.  Strongly suggest you decline to sail with Bill Bacon.

  • Steve Wilson, Chief Engineer SEABULK MARINER, Ex HVDE DIAMOND SHOALS.  Excellent Engineer, easy to work with, appreciates talent and knowledge, a very proper British gentleman, consider yourself privileged to sail with this Chief Engineer.  Strongly suggest declining an offer to sail with Chief Wilson's relief, Chief Engineer Fred Skedgel

  • "Bo" Brian Ramsey, Chief Engineer MSC USNS LOYAL. Strongly suggest declining an offer to sail with "Bo"

Company/Line:

Moran Towing and Transportation

50 Locust Ave.

New Canaan, CT 06840

Office  203 442 2800

FAX  203 442 2129

A good company to work for, flexible and accommodating, takes care of their crews and their equipment.  All crewmembers are required to be a member of or join United Marine local 333.

Primary business is Tugboat services and oil transportation. Engineering dept provides good support, company management appears indifferent to employees, pay not the best. tours two and three week, no vacation pay, no travel pay except to and from locations outside of New York City.

Crews mostly friendly and helpful, generally easy to get along with. Some boats non smoking.

Capt Lou Egan DORIS MORAN  is an excellent boat handler, has moved cement for many years with TURECAMO, considers himself a gourmet cook justifiably so, however be careful when applying seasoning to his creations. Capt. Egan has sailed with many of the same crew for years, and most know what is expected of them.

Capt. Egan does not make his expectations clear to a new crew member, and thus creates an uncomfortable environment for a new crewmember by sidewise stares and occasional comments.  Situation has progressed to a sudden unexpected outburst and reprimand.

Capt Egan is suspected of setting up such a confrontation.  Three week tours, often crew changes in Rovina, New York.  Neutral recommendation.

Capt Tom Cassidy Of TURECAMO GIRLS, excellent boat handler, easy to get along with, generally a happy crew. Deckhands prepare meals, two week tours. Mostly New York harbor ship movement and barge movement work, occasional out of town trips to Connecticut ports. A good boat to work on. Highly recommended.
