Moran Towing and Transportation 50 Locust Ave. New Canaan, CT 06840 Office 203 442 2800 FAX 203 442 2129
A good company to work for, flexible and accommodating, takes care of their crews and their equipment. All crewmembers are required to be a member of or join United Marine local 333.
Primary business is Tugboat services and oil transportation. Engineering dept provides good support, company management appears indifferent to employees, pay not the best. tours two and three week, no vacation pay, no travel pay except to and from locations outside of New York City.
Crews mostly friendly and helpful, generally easy to get along with. Some boats non smoking.
Capt Lou Egan DORIS MORAN is an excellent boat handler, has moved cement for many years with TURECAMO, considers himself a gourmet cook justifiably so, however be careful when applying seasoning to his creations. Capt. Egan has sailed with many of the same crew for years, and most know what is expected of them.
Capt. Egan does not make his expectations clear to a new crew member, and thus creates an uncomfortable environment for a new crewmember by sidewise stares and occasional comments. Situation has progressed to a sudden unexpected outburst and reprimand.
Capt Egan is suspected of setting up such a confrontation. Three week tours, often crew changes in Rovina, New York. Neutral recommendation.
Capt Tom Cassidy Of TURECAMO GIRLS, excellent boat handler, easy to get along with, generally a happy crew. Deckhands prepare meals, two week tours. Mostly New York harbor ship movement and barge movement work, occasional out of town trips to Connecticut ports. A good boat to work on. Highly recommended.
Summer sea term, a fun voyage, about 60 days, approximately 550 Cadets, Several good port stops, and several days in each port. Pay not good at all, crew, cadets and instructors mostly easy to get along with, An good way to accumulate steam time. Strongly recommended.
